The Founder
MARK 7
Mark founded The Run of Hope Liberty Torch Relay to create a movement that would help bring more light, love, and peace into the world.
“I’m just a lad from a small town in Wales. I consider myself equal. In the grand scheme of things, I’m simply grateful to play a small part in the big picture.”
— Mark 7
THE FOUNDER'S STORY
A Journey of Hope
Mark 7 born as Mark Llewhellin in Haverfordwest, Wales, left school with low confidence.
In the Army, he faced setbacks, including failing his initial fitness test and being voted the fattest in his troop. He overcame those obstacles and went on to become an Army commando. After seven years of service Mark left 7 Commando battery, 29 Commando Regiment, and worked as a bodyguard, door supervisor, and personal trainer, and later a support worker for individuals with learning difficulties, autism, brain injury, and epilepsy.
He dabbled with a little ultra-endurance by completing the Marathon des Sables in the Sahara Desert and ran from Denver to San Francisco, averaging 27 miles per day. He broke a treadmill distance record and placed 1st in the Strava Distance Challenge in both 2014 and 2015, competing against tens of thousands of participants.
Unity Beyond Borders
Plymouth, England.
In 2006 Mark organized the Pembrokeshire 5K Run of Hope as a stand alone event, sponsored and supported by Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Tesco, Nike, Barclays Bank and local sports stars.
He has authored personal development books, produced speaking events in theatres, and interviewed high performers from sport and business to understand the mindset behind success.
From an early age, Mark developed a deep appreciation for American music, movies, and the warmth of the American people. As he grew older, he became inspired by the American Dream and the entrepreneurs whose vision, determination, and willingness to take risks showed what was possible. American personal development authors and speakers also played a significant role in shaping his outlook on life, helping him build confidence, embrace challenges, and dedicate himself to encouraging others to live with greater purpose.
Standing with America
In 2001, three weeks after the tragic events of September 11, Mark travelled to New York City.
